CHAPTER 3

After the affection embrace from her stepfamily, Snow returned to her room and stared at it. It seemed so foreign to her though it hadn’t changed since she had been gone. Her bed was still made with the dark blue silk sheets that she loved. Her stuff animals were on a dresser in the corner and her closet was filled with her clothes.

She placed her bags on the bed and walked to the window. She peered out over the kingdom like she used to so often, but everything seemed different. Her eyes had been opened about the troubles happening in the kingdom that she hadn’t noticed before. Things were going to change just as she had.

A knock rapped on her door.

“Who is it?”

The door opened and Snow dropped to a crouch, but when a maid stepped into her room, Snow straightened quickly. “The queen would like you to join her and the princess for dinner.”

Snow nodded. “I will be down shortly.”

The maid bowed and closed the door.

Snow sighed. She had to ease up a little. She was always on her guard, but she had to pretend that she was all right and that nothing had happened. She had to pretend that she didn’t know about the corruption in the kingdom and that she was a warrior. She couldn’t let anyone know that she was different.

Snow dressed down for dinner. She wore a simple black skirt and a light green shirt. She had been through an ordeal and perhaps the new queen wouldn’t mind.

When she arrived at the dining hall, she was surprised to see Prince Charming waiting for her at the table. It was unbelievable that it had been a year since she had seen him. He still was handsome with his blonde hair and blue eyes, but he had grown a mustache in the year making him look more like a man.

When he saw Snow, Princess Charming rushed over to her. He gathered her hands in his and kissed her on the cheek. Snow looked at the floor and blushed.

“I’ve been waiting for the longest time to do that,” Prince Charming stated. “I’m glad that I got the chance. You scared me, you know.”

“It’s good to see you as well, Charming,” Snow said smiling. She glanced around the room expecting to see Sofia, but her friend was nowhere to be found. “Where’s Sofia?”

Charming escorted her to the table and held out her chair for her. Snow couldn’t remember the last time Charming was this chivalrous. Perhaps he did miss her.

“Since you disappeared, Sofia spent most of her time trying to find you,” Charming said as he sat. “When she couldn’t do that, she decided to fight the corruption in the kingdom.”

“And how’s that going so far for her?”

“Not very well. All she is doing is pissing a lot of people off. The wrong kinds of people. Since you’re back, maybe you could talk some sense into her.”

Snow glanced at her stepmother, who was conversing with a couple of advisors at the end of the table.
